While the sun is setting in a spring time sky, I am again hurrying to the gym. The class of yesterday still makes itself remembered but it should be that bad after all. How wrong I can be. Five minutes into the Wednesday stretch all muscles feel like they have been used to their limit for long. Time for rest, I tell myself and award myself with an early return home.
The sun is setting, our small launcher Vega is ready for flight and I am taking off to the gym to reach more personal goals. An hour later, all tired and sweaty, it feels after all worth it. Some strange way it is starting to be a habit again.
The sky is supposed to be the only limit, but it is hard to reach. You could wish it was lower in particular when trying to improve at the gym.
Saturday, the day of Pilates. The day of agony as the instructions hit muscle group after muscle group that you know you have but you never use actively. This was the first time after some months of bad excuses, it hurt more than it should.
Elliptical, a device made to make you move with low impact. Hopefully an hour burnt the pizza of Thursday night. Somehow I doubt it.
Back to gym, back to stretch, back to voluntarily suffer. Now way to get fit again, only work will do.
Maybe one day I will be straight as a Mediterranean tree, until then I will just use them as illustrations and an impossible goal to reach.
Late to the gym, missed the class and i forced myself up on the threadmill instead to burn the Sunday lunch you see above. Why is so much more enjoyable to load the calories rather than to consume them?
Anyway, forty minutes later I was well aware that the physical form needs more tender, love and care. Patience and endurance will be needed.
As the snow clears viability increases and I manage to get to the gym once again for an hour of stretch. Maybe, a nice day, it will make me flexible an straight. Until then, I just have to admire the way the cat moves so smooth.
Every day you learn something new you feel a bit better. After all these years of crunches I finally learned the technique of breathing and using both the lower and upper parts of the abdomen. I guess the sensations if a worked out muscle will stay over night.

I guess it is only to accept. It is not possible to immediately get back in form after a month long period of rest. Three classes working out at the gym under two weeks simply is not enough. Patience and discipline will be needed, and lots of sweat and pain. But, I guess it is worth it in the end. Everyone wants to look nice in the nude.

Many years ago I had the habit of going to the gym on Friday evenings The class started at seven, after shower and sauna I was ready just in time to get a meal and a beer during the Happy hours of the local pub. After a while, this habit spread and we became small gang maintaining both the Friday gym class and the pub.
Now, several years later, maybe it is opportune to create a new Friday night gym habit. Starting already tonight I’m now after the Posturales ready for some vino and prosciutto in the Frascatan Osteria.
